Существует два вида проводных линий СЦБ и связи — воздушные и кабельные.
Проводные воздушные линии связи включают в себя телефон­ные и телеграфные провода, а на участках, не оборудованных авто­блокировкой, — и провода СЦБ. На участках с автоблокировкой проводные линии СЦБ устраивают отдельно от линий связи.
На опорах линий СЦБ подвешивают провода цепей переменного тока напряжением 6 или 10 кВ для питания устройств СЦБ и линей­ных потребителей (малые станции, линейно-путевые здания, электри­ческие инструменты путейцев и т. д.), а также провода низковольт­ной цепи, которая используется в устройствах автоматики.
Воздушные линии строят так, чтобы они надежно противостояли любым неблагоприятным воздействиям: гололеду, изморози, ветру, дождю, грозовым разрядам. Расстояние между опорами (железобе­тонными или деревянными) составляет 35—50 м, высота подвески проводов в точке максимальной стрелы подвеса на перегонах при­нимается для высоковольтных линий не менее 5 м, а для сигнальных проводов и линий связи не менее 2,5 м. На электрифицированных участках высоковольтные линии питания автоблокировки и линейных потребителей подвешивают на опорах контактной сети.
На участках с тепловозной или электрической тягой постоянного тока вдоль железнодорожного полотна проходит несколько линий переменного тока (питания автоблокировки 6 или 10 кВ, продольного электроснабжения 10 кВ, питания тяговых подстанций), вызывающих сильные помехи в работе воздушной линии связи. Такое же воздейст­вие оказывает искрение тяговых двигателей локомотивов, работа вы­прямительных агрегатов тяговых подстанций и др. В этих случаях в системах, создающих помехи, устанавливают фильтры, а на самих воздушных линиях связи —защитные устройства.
Наряду с воздушными широко применяют кабельные линии сея-зи. Основными их преимуществами являются большая надежность передач, защищенность от влияния атмосферных и электрических по­мех, долговечность. Кабельные линии применяют в дальней связи, местной для соединения телефонных станций между собой, а также для стрелочной, внутристанционной диспетчерской связи и др.
На дорогах, электрифицированных на переменном токе, применяют только кабельные линии связи и СЦБ. Кабельную сеть СЦБ образуют линии электрической централизации, автоблокировки, станционной блокировки и линии Для соединения напольных и постовых устройств. Кабельные линии связи и СЦБ бывают воздушные, подземные и под­водные. Подземные кабели укладывают в траншеях, в кабельной кана­лизации, тоннелях или коллекторах и защищают от механических по­вреждений и блуждающих токов.
